translating fitful text 3

by ying0jiang

I feel like I can be flung high, and that is because without any hesitation, you raise up all my weight with your arms. Sometimes stress burdens me, but having you near me is like a feather fondling over my skin. It is even lighter than the word “light”. Finally I can wake up from laziness and negativity , and curve into your embrace.

You see my sleeping face without any adornment, but still hold the feeling as first fell in love with me. That is most precious.

questions

by ying0jiang

Helen:

1. Can you depict what men’s gaze is in your understanding? Is it tricky sometimes for you to abandon your female perspective and see from men’s gaze?

2. What are you trying to criticise on when you are using men’s gaze rather than women’s?

Killian:

1. Your work is photography as well as sculpture at the same time. What do you think developing your photography to 3 dimension can add to your work?

2. How is your work guiding the audience to connect your past and development?

Rui:

1. In your whirlpool photograph, I assume you are suggesting the state of unconsciousness. Would you be worried if it is seen as a designated scene that contains your conscious process about your unconscious dream?

2. Do you also suggest any broader concepts than reflecting yourself?

further statements & possible fund raising

by ying0jiang

personal statement: The work explores things I feel inspired from the one I have been most close with. It contains materials I collected from her, her writings over a long period of time, her dream, and her emotions. Using my own perspective, I try to visualise each of the fitful materials into an imagery language, and arrange the way they are presented to achieve my response to her insecurity about losing and interpretation of her.  The difference between my visualisation and her vision is what identifies each of us and yet at the same time keeps us connected . Using video as the method is my hope to extend what photography would freeze, and keep the memory about our intimacy long-lasting.

group statement: The collaborative project forms by different perspectives of the artists and responses to the subjects. Either using the self and subconscious perspective, or a lover’s perspective, or self psychoanalysing perspective, or even shifting from a female perspective to men’s gaze, the group is intended to analyse and evaluate the self, the lover, or the designated females who are within the gaze. The artists are using traditional photography and its extended methods to express the concepts that are most suitable for each of the ways.

possible fund raising: let the others enjoy the art while having a cocktail?

Collaborative Statement

by ying0jiang

(key words: femininity , performance , analysis , visualisation)

Our collaboration is based on each one’s concern about identity and specifically speaking femininity. It’s a deep analysis on either the artist herself, or the close one, or females inspired from paintings. Through performance of the person in front of the camera, we use photography and its extended methods to visualise our collaborative and yet different ideas about the subject.
